General Manager of the National Water and Sewerage Authority, Mr. Christopher
Husbands says the investment, which will be made with support from the German
government, will include โthe installation of 3 new water storage tanks and piping
infrastructure that will benefit communities like Windward and Mt. Pleasantโโ.
He was speaking at the official opening of NAWASAโs sub-office in Carriacou this week.
The government of Grenada is throwing its support behind the Authority, which has
pledged to ensure that Carriacou and Petite Martinique have a reliable water supply.
Minister for Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs and Local Government, Hon. Tevin Andrews, offered his gratitude to the statutory body for the new service.
Minister for Infrastructure and Physical Development, Public Utilities, Civil Aviation and Transport, Hon. Dennis Cornwall, noted that โthe main aim is to improve water supply as it will address the islandsโ ability to withstand periods of extended drought.โ
โThe struggles arising from climate change are well known; this water project would
support quick recovery in the aftermath of any natural disaster like hurricanes,โ he further stated.
Also attending the ceremony were Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs and Local Government, Javan Williams, and Permanent
Secretary in the Ministry of Infrastructure Development, Public Utilities and Civil Aviation, Michael Stephen.
