47TH Independence Anniversary Calypso Competition Shaping Up To Be An Exciting Affair

On a brighter note, calypsonians making it to the final of the 47th anniversary Independence calypso competition are gearing up for what’s shaping up as a spectacle the Nation will not forget.

The artistes started practicing for the occasion last Tuesday and the quality of their compositions are said to be rather encouraging.

The Independence Calypso final will be held at the National stadium Friday evening, beginning 6 o’clock, and will be televised virtually to the viewing public, since the COVID pandemic restricts in-person audiences.

Coordinator of the Independence Calypso competition, Adrian Mark of the Ministry of Culture, says there’s a lot of enthusiasm within the ranks of the finalists.

He’s been around as they go through their paces at practice sessions.

Mark says it’s shaping up to be a good show.

Mark says there’s something unique about the songs.

Adrian Mark, a musician himself, went further to indicate the calypsonians have made a remarkable improvement.

The finalists will be dipping 6 this evening at the Trade Centre for their order of appearance.

Well, reports have reached us that one of the finalists have exited the competition.

We understand that Zaedel Jeffrey will no longer take part and Jermaine Simon (Super Star) who’s been the Stand By on the programme jumps into the picture.

No reasons have been given for Zaedel’s decision.
