4H STUDENTS VISIT SANDY’S ECO FARM TO UNDERSTAND THE LIFE OF THIS FARMER

Students of two Roman Catholic Schools, St. Michael’s and St. Matthew’s in the Parish of St. Andrew earlier this week spent a day observing the life of Farmer Sherwyn Sandy.

Sandy runs an eco farm-using kitchen scraps to feed his pigs, then using the pig waste to generate fuel for electricity and cooking via his bio-gas digester.

The students got to understand the attributes related to managing the facility and how Sandy incorporates the waste into his farm as fertilizer and the fuel to make local chips, bread and flour from provision.

This session was organized by the 4H Unit of the Ministry in collaboration with SAEP Grenada.

SAEP extension officer is Brendaline Samuel-Chance.

4H officer Melissa Tyson says their unit welcomes the initiative.
