The Grenada Government’s 90-day gun amnesty has already taken effect.

It started yesterday and will run through to July 30, during which period individuals with illegal firearms and ammunition can turn them in to police authorities, without having to face any consequences.

The policy measure was put in place, with a view to dealing with the gun-crime problem, which appears rearing its ugly head in Grenada, interfering with the country’s safety and security.

The Leader of Government Business, Minister Phillip Telesford, as he piloted the resolution concerning the gun amnesty in the House of Representatives last Thursday.

He says the measure is to lessen the potential for the commission of violent crimes and firearms’-related incidents and to preserve the serenity of the State, known globally for its tranquility.

Telesford appeals to individuals with illegal firearm and ammunitions in their possession to take advantage of the amnesty, during the specified 90-day period.
