Grenada has once again joined the global campaign to end Gender-Based Violence, with activities which run from today to December 10.

The 16 Days of Activism campaign highlights the importance of protecting women and girls against the most widespread and persistent violation of Gender-Based Violence.

The Grenada Government continues to play its role in eradicating society of this social ill.

In March of last year the Grenada Government, in conjunction with the European Union and the United Nations, launched the “Spotlight Initiative” which is aimed at eliminating all forms of violence against women and girls in the country.

Minister of Social Development, Delma Thomas, speaking at a commemorative event for the 16 Days of Activism campaign, says the “Spotlight Initiative” has been very instrumental for women and girls in this global pandemic.

Minister Thomas also commended the work of the European Union and the United Nations in assisting Grenada with this very important venture.

The UN Resident Coordinator for Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean, Didier Trebucq, says recent figures show that at least one-third of women and girls in the Caribbean are affected by violence.
