Grenada Union Of Teachers Question Health And Education Ministries Decision For Full Reopening Of School

The Grenada Union of Teachers is today questioning the decision by the Ministries of Health and Education for the full re-opening of face-to-face school next week, indicating it’s not the best at this time, with the current surge in COVID cases.

Making the announcement this week that face-to-face instruction will resume Monday, Acting Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Shawn Charles, giving his full support to the move, noted that already too many of the Nation’s children have been disenfranchised from their learning development due to the crisis and that could evolve into greater problems.

Dr. Charles noted that the pandemic is continuing to do severe harm to the Nation’s children depriving them of that in-person instruction.

He made the point on the assertion that the pandemic doesn’t seem to be going away anytime soon.

Well, the GUT President General, Jude Bartholomew, speaking at a News Conference today, doesn’t see the decision as the best at this time, but says the teachers will return to the classroom.

The GUT President General deems the decision to have the full re-opening of school as reckless.
