UPDATE: FRONTAL TROUGH SYSTEM DISSIPATED, CLOUDY CONDITIONS TO IMPROVE
St. George’s, Grenada – Tuesday 13th December 2022.
Forecasters at the Meteorological Office at the Maurice Bishop International Airport indicated that the cold front previously mentioned has dissipated.
The pre-frontal trough system triggered cloudiness, showery periods of rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds across the island chain. The axis of the trough system is located near 58W, 217 nautical miles (402 km) east of Grenada.
Weather models signal that the axis of the trough system will continue along a northwestward path and traverse the island chain early Wednesday morning. There is also a low potential for lingering moisture and instability to induce some isolated showers on Wednesday.
On Tuesday afternoon, conditions are forecast to be mostly cloudy and breezy, becoming overcast at times with light to moderate showers or periods of rain and a medium chance of isolated thunderstorms, improving gradually overnight.
On Wednesday, partly cloudy conditions can be expected with few, isolated showers and low chance of isolated thunderstorms, if environmental conditions are conducive.
High surf and marine advisories remain in effect for the State of Grenada.
Potential Impacts of the weather are:
– Low chance of street flooding and/ or flash flooding in vulnerable areas on Tuesday
– Territorial coastal waters are projected to remain agitated with waves extending to 8 feet in above normal North Easterly swells.
