GRENADA AIRPORTS AUTHORITY SPEAKS OF THE DANGERS OF KITE-FLYING AROUND AIRPORTS’ SURROUNDINGS

The Grenada Airport Authority (GAA) has sent out notice to the public that Kite flying is strictly prohibited in communities surrounding the Maurice Bishop International and Lauriston Airports.

Prohibited areas include, but are not limited to Quarantine Point, Calliste, Frequente, Fort Jeudy, St. Paul’s, Mt. Parnassus and Mt. Moritz, as well as the vicinity of the Lauriston Airport.

The GAA warns that flying kites pose a serious threat to aircraft safety, since kites can be easily ingested into aircraft engine, or become entangled in aircraft propellers, resulting in engine failure with catastrophic consequences to aircraft passengers and persons on the ground.

The Airports authority urges all to cooperate towards ensuring the safety of aircraft operations into and out of the MBIA.

The GAA noted that it will be seeking the assistance of the RGPF in dealing with violators.
