COMMISSIONER OF POLICE, EDVIN MARTIN, TAKES HIS EXIT AND A NEW MAN IN CONTROL

The news information cycle today is presented with the departure of Grenada’s Commissioner of Police, Edvin Martin, who goes off on pre-retirement leave.

Martin’s pre-retirement leave and the change in the senior management position were highlighted at a News Conference this morning, with the announcement made by Prime Minister, Dickon Mitchell, under whose portfolio National Security falls.

Prime Minister Mitchell thanked Commissioner Martin for his years of service.

Commissioner Martin has been in charge of the RGPF over the past five years and, interpreting his view of the period of time with the men and women in uniform of State duty for peace and security, it’s a means of sacrifice.

Commissioner Martin further substantiated the point of the benefits to the state when there’s a good relationship with the public and the police.

He appeals for this to continue in good vein.

With respect to information which has been circulating to the contrary, COP Martin implies he was not forced out of his chair.

The man who is now trusted with the responsibility of controlling the RGPF at the pinnacle is Don McKenzie, who says the task ahead is mobilizing the constabulary in accordance with the strategic focus, as well as engaging the public.

McKenzie says he’s already spoken to his predecessor about the way forward.
