The Grenada Government has begun addressing the coastal erosion at Sauteurs and neighboring communities, starting with an environmental and social impact assessment.

Environmental and natural issues have resulted in damage to the archeological site at Sauteurs Bay, as well as damage to businesses and homes in the area.

Back in 2017, the previous Government attempted to intervene in the matter by constructing a breakwater system.

This intervention is popularly known as the Sauteurs Break- water Project and was successful in protecting the lower Sauteurs area and businesses were restored, but the surrounding communities of Mt. Rodney and Mt. Craven were affected.

Parliamentary representative for St. Patrick West hon. Joseph Andall, earlier this week hosted a community meeting for residents of the affected areas and discussed government’s plans to address the challenge.

An Environmental Scientist from Guyana is responsible for conducting the impact assessment.

Chief technical officer in the ministry of infrastructure, Kevin Blache, presented the government’s proposed design solution for the coastal erosion at Mt. Rodney, Mt. Craven and surrounding areas.
