The St. George’s Airport Runway and Road Upgrade/Rehabilitation Project was thrown into a mode today to officially get off the ground.
This inclination through a sod-turning ceremony by high-ranking officials of the Grenada Government and the Chinese Embassy.
The project is funded through a concessional loan to the Government, provided by the People’s Republic of China.
It’s expected to provide some 200 or more jobs.
Prime Minister, Dr. Keith Mitchell, however, chose the opportunity to deal with rumours that the airport will be owned by the Chinese.
Chinese Ambassador, Dr. Zhao Yongchen, is again delighted over the friendly relations which exist between the two countries, indicating that his country is always ready to help a friend in need.
It’s been some 15 years in the making since both countries resumed diplomatic relations.
Like Dr. Mitchell, Dr. Zhao, dismisses rumours about China’s endeavour to control the airport.
The Chinese Ambassador says the rumours are groundless and that China has never been a colonialist or an invader
