Our four-member National swim team returned home on Thursday night, July 14, after more commendable performances by each of its members at the thirty fourth Swimming Championships of the Central American and Caribbean Swimming Confederation (CCCAN ).

While the team only obtained one medal, each member swam commendably considering the toughness of the competitions.

Special mention must be made of the sole medalist, Sara Dowden, who swam herself to third position and obtained a bronze medal in the Girls’ 100m Butterfly breaking her own national record of 1:06.77 with a new time of 1:05.49. It
didn’t end there for the fourteen year old swimmer. She also broke another national record in the 400m IM, with a time of 5:32.03, a national record held since 2009 by Ayesha Noel.

Zackary Gresham, who made it to several finals at the championships, came just short of earning the island another bronze, when he positioned 4th in the 100m Backstroke but obtaining a personal best time of 1:00.43.

The team which comprised Sara Dowden, Tilly Collymore, Nathan Fletcher and Zackary Gresham along with their coach,Coach Mandy Dean, must be recognized for their commendable representation of Grenada.

GASA commends them and wishes them the best in all future competitions.
