Akim Andrew, 19 years old of Loretto, St. John was given a suspended sentence for practicing medicine without a license and on the charge of fraud by false pretense was sentenced to one hundred hours of community service and in default will serve six months in prison.
The sentencing was handed down by Chief Magistrate Teddy St. Louis at the St. George’s Magistrate’s Court, today Friday 28th February, 2020.
A suspended sentence is a legal term for a judge’s delaying of a defendant’s serving of a sentence after they have been found guilty, in order to allow the defendant to perform a period of probation. If the defendant does not break the law during that period, and fulfills the particular conditions of the probation, the judge usually dismisses the sentence.
