A seminar geared at assisting teachers in being able to assist and make referrals to counselors for students who may need psychosocial support, began yesterday at the National Cricket Stadium.

Approximately 25 teachers participated in the event which will wrap up tomorrow.

The workshop is expected to equip them with the necessary skill sets to be able to help direct students to counselors for psychosocial assistance.

The facilitator Grenadian born Dr. Anthony Bridgeman who is a Psychotherapist and a Principal at West Islip high school on Long Island in New York City, pointed to the recent surge in challenging behaviors among students in both the United States and Grenada.

Dr. Bridgeman further stated that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, people will have to change the way in which mental health is viewed for both adults and children.

Clinical psychologist in the ministry of education Pearson Stroude welcomed the teachers whom he noted were on the frontline in dealing with the needs of students.

Some of the topics that will be discussed are mental health, trauma, self care, and dealing with challenging students.
