There’s another change in traffic arrangements that were initially made yesterday in view of accommodating vending in the city, now that Christmas shopping is being heightened.

REPORT:

Yesterday, Granby Street between Grenville Street and Halifax Street and Hillsborough Street between Grenville Street and Halifax Street were closed off to vehicular traffic, a decision made really to accommodate vendors plying their trade for the busy Christmas season.

In normal circumstances, the vendors would probably have lined the pavements selling their goods, but authorities felt with the hustle and bustle associated with the yuletide season, and to accommodate everyone, pedestrians alike, it would be better if the vendors are placed in one specific location and to ease the congestion.

A dispatch was sent out by the RGPF yesterday noting the circumstances.

It was however observed, though, that the smooth flow of traffic in and around the city centre was causing some concern and today there are further changes to the decision made, as it relates to accommodating the vendors.

Earlier this morning, the Police could have been seen in numbers scouting the area, with effect to changing the decision made yesterday.

In their information dispatch today the Royal Grenada Police Force is advising the general public that due to excessive traffic congestion caused by the vending which was allowed on Granby and Hillsborough Streets, vending is being relocated to Melville Street, close to the Fish Market, And, normal traffic arrangements have resumed on Granby and Hillsborough Streets.

In view of the new arrangements, vendors were asked kindly to remove all goods and equipment from Granby and Hillsborough Streets at the close of business yesterday.

Vendors are also reminded that vending on the sidewalks is prohibited.

The RGPF is thanking everyone for their support thus far and makes a further appeal for full cooperation in endeavoring as much as possible, to ensure the safety and convenience of everyone, as it says, for this Christmas Season and beyond.
