Legislation designed for the decriminalization of marijuana was yesterday introduced in the House of Representatives.

However, there’s been no debate on the issue, leaving room for public discussion over the next 3 months, before it’s brought back to the floor to go through the remaining stages of approval on the lower Parliamentary chamber.

It will then be taken to the legislators in the Senate for final approval.

In this regard, the Drug Abuse (Prevention and Control) Amendment Act, under which the measure was tabled was only read in the House of Representatives yesterday for the first time.

The Bill was introduced by Agriculture Minister, Peter David.

Among other things, the Legislation allows for strict guidelines to be followed in the process.
