The Ministry of Agriculture and Lands, Fisheries and Cooperatives is said to be seeking to increase the earning capacity of agro-processors, reduce the wastage of seasonal foods and increase the shelf-life of processed agricultural goods.
Through its Food Security Initiative it intends to assist ten medium to large agro-processors to upgrade their facilities and improve their capacity.
The initiative also aims to assist 25 small agro-processors improve their capacity by providing training and assistance.
The Ministry says training will be made available to all agro-processors who indicate their interest.
An agro-processor is considered as someone who uses at least 60% of locally-grown agricultural produce in putting value added to their products.
