Its the start of the three-day 44th CARICOM Inter-Sessional Heads of Government Meeting taking place in the Bahamas, with critical talks to be held on pertinent issues, that, according to Chairman, Phillip Davis, needs action.
Among matters on the agenda are, the CSME, the Haitian dilemma and the need to support Haitian-led solutions, the climate crisis and climate financing and the effects on the region, inflation, food security, among others.
Davis, the Prime Minister of the Bahamas, welcomed the delegates, asking them to settle in, confident the region is strong and real progress can be made in the further strengthening of the integration movement.
On the question of Haiti, Davis lamented the need for the region to work together in support of a solution.
Grenada is being represented by Prime Minister, Dickon Mitchell and Foreign Affairs, Trade and Export Development Minister, Joseph Andall.
Prior to the meeting, CARICOM Secretary General, Dr. Carla Barnett, noted Guyana playing an important role in the area of improving the region’s agriculture and food production, being critical now, more than ever.
The Heads of few international banks and/or agencies will also attend the meeting and make presentations.
The 44th CARICOM Inter-Sessional Heads of Government meeting is being held at a time when the region is shaping up to celebrate the 50th golden jubilee anniversary of the integration movement, the oldest regional grouping in the Western Hemisphere.
