PR – The Carriacou and Petite Martinique Parish Sports Council, announces the launch of the Carriacou and Petite Martinique Primary Schools Sports Quiz Competition 2026. This is a new educational initiative designed to celebrate the talents, intelligence, and potential of the Sister Isles’ young people.
The competition brings together students from all six (6) primary schools across Carriacou and Petite Martinique in an engaging contest that combines learning, sports knowledge, teamwork, and school pride. Participating schools include Dover Government School, Hillsborough Government School, Mt. Pleasant Government School, Lady of the Rosary L’Esterre RC, Harvey Vale Government School and St. Thomas Aquinas R. C. School – Petite Martinique.
At its core, the competition is about people. It is about creating opportunities for young students to build confidence, think critically, develop leadership skills, and discover the value of sport beyond the playing field. Students will be challenged to deepen their knowledge of sports history, Grenadian sporting achievements, Olympic values, health and wellness, and current sporting events.
Chairperson of the Carriacou and Petite Martinique Parish Sports Council, Ms. Ayanna Bartholomew, said the initiative reflects the Council’s commitment to investing in young people and creating opportunities for them to shine.
“This competition is first and foremost about our children. We want to allow every student to learn, to challenge themselves, and to discover their strengths. Sport teaches discipline, teamwork, perseverance, and excellence, and through this quiz competition, students will have the opportunity to develop these qualities in a fun and engaging environment. We are especially excited to see all six schools coming together as one community, celebrating knowledge, achievement, and the remarkable potential of our young people.”
Ms.Bartholomew noted that the programme is not only expected to foster healthy competition among schools but also to strengthen relationships among students, teachers, parents, and communities throughout the Sister Isles.
Chairman of the National Sports Council, Mr. Patrick Simmons, described the initiative as an important step in broadening how young people engage with sport.
“Sport is much more than physical activity. It is a powerful tool for education, character development, and nation-building. This Sports Quiz Competition demonstrates that young people can engage with sport intellectually as well as athletically. By encouraging students to learn about sporting history, values, and achievements, we are helping to develop informed,
confident, and well-rounded citizens. The National Sports Council is proud to support an initiative that places young people at the center of learning and development.”
The competition is expected to generate excitement across Carriacou, Petite Martinique, and the wider Grenada community. Families, educators, sports enthusiasts, and community organisations will have the opportunity to support participating schools as students prepare for the competition.
Organisers also anticipate strong interest from the Grenadian diaspora through planned media coverage, social media engagement, and livestream broadcasts, ensuring that supporters at home and abroad can celebrate the achievements of the participating students.
The organising committee encouragies schools, parents, businesses, and community stakeholders to rally behind the initiative and support the students who will represent their schools.
