Residents Of Carriacou are expected to benefit from the “Recycle Organics Latin America and the Caribbean Programme with Grenada being one of ten countries to benefit from the initiative.”

Discussions on the project were held with Permanent Secretary within the Ministry of Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs and Local Government, Javan Williams.

Composting, the focal point of the programme highlights the pledge made in 2021 by over 100 countries to take action to reduce global methane emissions by at least 30% by 2030.

It’s a programme financed by the Global Methane Hub and Environment and Climate Change Canada.

Belize, Chile, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Guyana, Mexico, Peru, St. Lucia and Uruguay are among the other countries to benefit.

The visiting team, led by Programme Manager, Brooks Shaffer, reportedly examined how best the project could be implemented in Carriacou.

The initiative will further support the recycling project recently launched by the Grenada Solid Waste Management Authority.
