The Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) today set out the timetable for initial hearing on the matter concerning BACOL and CL Financial (British American (BAICO).
The Legal team of BACOL representing policy holders in several Eastern Caribbean countries, including Grenada, made a request for permission by the CCJ to take legal action against Trinidad and Tobago for alleged discrimination against non-nationals in protecting the funds of some policyholders.
This is in view of the companies having folded operations and failure to satisfy compensation to the policy holders in the territories that have brought the matter to the court.
The court is asked for special leave to hear the matter.
The Court convened today, and after deliberations from the legal representatives of both sides, set the 18th of January as the hearing date and submissions pertaining to leave of the court for the hearing will be filed during the period of November and December.
