CMO Shawn Charles Says Despite The Covid Situation Said It Is Necessary To Open Schools

With the spike in covid cases, there’s been sporadic public concern about allowing children to continue face-to-face classes, with reference to their ability to remain masked and engage in social distancing.

The Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Shawn Charles, however, says the school-re-opening was necessary, in that, the health of children is influenced tremendously by their education, and the education environment is vital for the normal development of every child.

He says schools don’t just educate, they offer socialisation, a safe environment, nutrition and counselling.

Dr. Charles is firm in saying he has not heard a “plausible justification to keep the Nation’s children home further”.
