Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Shawn Charles, says the COVID situation here is really one of concern.

He was speaking on a regional programme, “COVID-19 Vaccines, A Dose of the Facts”, looking at the virus and issues relating to its spread, as it relates to the Grenada experience, and moreso, the question of vaccines.

Dr. Charles says the Delta variant is causing a series of problems, especially when compounded to a level of people’s carelessness in adhering to health and safety protocols and vaccine hesitancy.

The general view is that the region is in a race against time to prevent health systems from collapsing.

Dr. Charles says while the situation in Grenada is one of concern currently, they are managing with reliance on the term resilience.

Dr. Charles says the fact that Grenada being one of the places where for a very long time we had literally no cases, a level of complacency stepped into the population.
