Commissioner of police, Edvin Martin, today cleared the air relative to the Coast Guard boat incident, which at the time recently, claimed the life of Grenadian national, Kimon Bell.
It’s one of several matters discussed with reporters today at a News Conference called by the Police…one where there have been queries for answers.
The lawmen involved in the boating incident while not being suspended, are not on active duty currently.
This disclosure by the top Cop, Edvin Martin.
He noted that it’s a sad and depressing incident for the RGPF and further mentioned that it’s under active investigation by a team of the Regional Security System (RSS).
Currently, at every stage of the process the DPP is consulted and engaged.
Upon completion of the investigation on the police side, Martin went on to indicate, the file will be submitted to the DPP for his consideration and directive.
As a result of the incident surrounding the death of Kimon Bell, family and friends, sympathizers and close associates of the deceased took to the streets last Friday demanding answers.
Provocative and ugly scenes emanated on the protest line.
Speaking on this specific issue, COP Martin issued a call for a strong relationship of mutual trust between the Royal Grenada Police Force and the communities they serve, which, according to him, is critical to maintaining public safety and effective policing.
On this basis, the Commissioner of Police is urging the public, especially individuals wishing to take protest action, to respect and cooperate with lawmen carrying out their duties.
In the wake of the boating incident, the legitimacy of the police has been questioned in many communities.
With the investigations ongoing, the Commissioner calls on all to be patient, tolerant and exercise good judgment.
