Commissioner Of Police, Edvin Martin, provides clarity on the newly-designated holding facility thatโ€™s being established at Morne Rouge.

The facility is located on a compound that has been used to house persons in quarantine and isolation since the start of COVID-19 pandemic.

Raised eyebrows earlier this week has been speculating that itโ€™s a new prison facility being erected.

Commissioner Martin explains that it is a temporary measure designed to reduce the potential spread of COVID 19 at her majestyโ€™s prison.

In response to media queries, Commissioner Martin noted that the facility may never be used for its designated purpose.

However, he explained that before housing a prisoner in any facility, it must be appropriately designated.

Commissioner Martin went on to confirm there are no prisoners at the temporary facility at this time, as the in-house facility at the Richmond Hill prison is currently sufficient.

COP Martin explained that once the current level of community spread is reduced the measure will be rescinded.
