Commissioner Of Police, Edvin Martin, provides clarity on the newly-designated holding facility that’s being established at Morne Rouge.

The facility is located on a compound that has been used to house persons in quarantine and isolation since the start of COVID-19 pandemic.

Raised eyebrows earlier this week has been speculating that it’s a new prison facility being erected.

Commissioner Martin explains that it is a temporary measure designed to reduce the potential spread of COVID 19 at her majesty’s prison.

In response to media queries, Commissioner Martin noted that the facility may never be used for its designated purpose.

However, he explained that before housing a prisoner in any facility, it must be appropriately designated.

Commissioner Martin went on to confirm there are no prisoners at the temporary facility at this time, as the in-house facility at the Richmond Hill prison is currently sufficient.

COP Martin explained that once the current level of community spread is reduced the measure will be rescinded.
