The Financial Intelligence Unit of the Royal Grenada Police Force has confirmed that a sum of counterfeit EC paper notes has been confiscated in Grenada.
The Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) is therefore advising the public to be alert when conducting transactions.
The ECCB further advises the public of the features of genuine EC paper notes include.
They include Golden fishes on the back of the note, around the silver compass rose, where there is an area printed with a special iridescent ink, which has a gold sheen.
When the note is moved around in the light, the images of several fishes appear and disappear.
A highly reflective silver foil at the top right-hand corner of the front of the note, shows the denomination and the letters “ECCB” in small prints;
There’s a horizontal security thread, which is visible on the front of the notes and shows the letters ECCB and the denomination value.
A watermark depicts Queen Elizabeth the second on the left-hand side of the front of the note, which can be seen when held up to light.
The watermark is perfectly aligned on the back.
The ECCB wishes to remind the public that counterfeit EC notes have no value, and that it’s a criminal offence to use or be in possession of counterfeit notes.
The ECCB says persons who think they may be in possession of counterfeit EC notes should take them to the nearest police station or to the ECCB Agency Office, St. Matthew and Monckton Streets, St. George’s.
