Grenada Land Actors INC., (GLA), a body which has been clamouring for environmental impact assessments to be undertaken on several major projects in the country is said to have obtained a Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court appeal ruling in its favour.

The group welcomes the ruling in its case against the Planning and Development Authority of

Grenada and three developers at: La Sagesse Range Developments (Grenada) Ltd., The Mt. Hartman Group Ltd. and Levera (Singapore Heng Sheng (G’da) Development Pte. Ltd).

In the matter GLA was the respondent and the court ruled that the case must proceed and that the issue of standing, that is, whether or not the Land Actors Group has the right to bring an environmental challenge, must be determined at the full trial of the case.

Additionally, the Court ordered that the Physical Planning and Development Authority, together with the developers, must pay the costs of the appeal to GLA, to be agreed, if not, to be assessed by a High Court Judge within 21 days.

With the ruling and the case is to be conducted, the GLA says it will continue to advocate for transparency, participation and accountability at the Physical Planning and Development Authority, and for the Government to adhere to the laws, rules and regulations of Grenada, as well as its international

obligations to protect the environment, and to ensure sustainable development and a healthy

environment for all its people.

The GLA is contending there are environmental issues surrounding the three major projects.
