The Appeal Court has this week upheld the life sentence handed down to Dave Benjamin January 18, 2018, who, in the high court, pleaded guilty in connection with the death of US National, Jessica Colker.

Maryam Tawfiq has been following this story and filed this report.

The life sentence was handed down to him by high court Judge, Paula Gilford, after careful consideration of the matter.

Jessica Colker was murdered on Sunday, 24th January 2016, in the area of the La Sagesse beach.

Colker and her husband, Brian Melito, were here in Grenada on vacation.

The two had embarked on a leisure walk on the beach when they were taken hostage.

Melito escaped and raised an alarm which mounted a search for Jessica.

Her body was later discovered.

The incident reportedly occurred some two months after Benjamin was released from the Richmond Hill Prison on a rape conviction.

In both cases, in the high court as well as the Appeal Court, Benjamin was represented by Attorney Andre Thomas.

With Benjamin losing the appeal, the matter of affording him time for parole is to be decided on.
