(ASSOCIATE TIMES) – Canada has added the Commonwealth of Dominica and Grenada to its list of countries qualifying for the CAN Plus visa programme. Canadian High Commissioner Lilian Chatterjee shared the information in a Tweet later Wednesday.
She added that Canada values its relations with Dominica, “Glad to announce that it is in the CAN+ program for expedited visa processing for its citizens who had visas over past ten years or current valid visa,”.
Canada also included Grenada in the list, increasing the number of CAN Plus eligible countries to thirteen by adding two new members. Earlier, this visa programme was only available to the citizens of the following countries:
- Brazil
- China
- India
- Indonesia
- Mexico
- Morocco
- Pakistan
- Philippines
- Russia
- South Korea
- Thailand
- Vietnam
Notably, the CAN Plus visa program is designed to expedite the processing of visitor visas for citizens of eligible countries who either earlier either come to Canada in the past ten years or hold a valid non-immigrant US visa.
CAN + is regarded as a great way to get visa applications processed in less time. As per Canada’s Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada Department, with this visa application programme, applications are accelerated, and a decision usually arrives within ten days from the date of application.
The CAN Plus visa programme is not to be confused with the Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA). As per the eTA, people who hold a valid US non-immigrant visa or held a Canadian visa in the past ten years can travel without requiring a prior visa. However, the CAN Plus visa programme is totally different to this; in this case, applicants still need to apply for a visa whether they hold a US visa or ever had a Canadian visa in the past.
People expressed their happiness with the recent announcement on social media. A user named John Charles commented, “I’m thrilled that Dominica is now part of the CAN Plus program. It will make the visa application process so much smoother for me and others who have been to Canada before,”.
While another user commented, “The addition of Dominica to the CAN Plus programme demonstrates the strong relationship between our countries. It fosters closer connections and promotes positive exchanges in various fields,”.
Furthermore, Canada shares strong ties with the Commonwealth of Dominica, in March this year Lilian Chatterjee – Canadian High Commissioner to the to Barbados, Antigua & Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, Saint Kitts & Nevis, Saint Lucia & Saint Vincent & the Grenadines, OECS Commission visited Dominica. She had meaningful discussions with the Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit during her visit to Roseau.
