St. George’s University (SGU) announced that Dr. Marios Loukas has been appointed to the  role of Dean, School of Medicine for St. George’s University. Dr. Loukas is only the fifth Dean of  the School of Medicine in the university’s forty-four-year history and will continue to be based in  Grenada. Dr. Loukas will report to Dr. Richard Liebowitz, Vice Chancellor, and succeeds Dr.  Stephen Weitzman, who has been with SGU for over forty years and will remain with SGU as Dean Emeritus.

The Dean of the School of Medicine is one of the most critical roles at the university. To fill this  key position, a professional search firm was hired to identify candidates, both internally and  externally. Dr. Loukas, who has served in the important role of Dean of Basic Sciences for the  past five years, was felt to be the most qualified individual to assume this key position. The  senior leadership of SGU, including its academic leaders and Board of Directors, strongly  supports the selection of Dr. Loukas and looks forward to his leadership.

Dr. Charles Modica, Chancellor of St. Georges University, stated “I could not be more excited  that Dr. Loukas will be assuming this critical position leading the School of Medicine. This is a  proud day for me and the entire SGU community as we continue our strong legacy of  outstanding medical education leadership at St. George’s University.”
