The Eastern Caribbean Telecommunications Authority (ECTEL) is celebrating the fact Grenada has passed the Electronic Communications Bill.

The Bill, a harmonized bit of legislation, is aimed at promoting a liberalized electronic communications space and a non-discriminatory entry into the sector.

On the 25th and 26th of last month, the Bill was passed respectively in Grenada’s both houses of Parliament, the House of Representatives and the Senate. It came ahead of ECTEL’s 23th anniversary.

ECTEL’s Managing Director, David Cox, said with the enactment of the Bill in Grenada, the authority has moved closer to securing the future of the sector for the sub-region.

Grenada has joined St. Kitts/Nevis and St. Vincent and the Grenadines with the passage of the Electronic Communications Bill.

Cox is hoping the Commonwealth of Dominica and Saint Lucia will follow shortly.
