The Eastern Caribbean Telecommunications Authority (ECTEL) is celebrating the fact Grenada has passed the Electronic Communications Bill.

The Bill, a harmonized bit of legislation, is aimed at promoting a liberalized electronic communications space and a non-discriminatory entry into the sector.

On the 25th and 26th of last month, the Bill was passed respectively in Grenadaโ€™s both houses of Parliament, the House of Representatives and the Senate. It came ahead of ECTELโ€™s 23th anniversary.

ECTELโ€™s Managing Director, David Cox, said with the enactment of the Bill in Grenada, the authority has moved closer to securing the future of the sector for the sub-region.

Grenada has joined St. Kitts/Nevis and St. Vincent and the Grenadines with the passage of the Electronic Communications Bill.

Cox is hoping the Commonwealth of Dominica and Saint Lucia will follow shortly.
