The community of Mt. Horne in St. Andrew will soon be the home of a chocolate plant, a 378 thousand dollar project that seeks to utilize Grenada’s fine flavored Cocoa Beans, for the production of Milk Chocolate.

The initiative by the Diamond Chocolate Factory (DCF) will see the production of another type of variety of Bean to Bar Chocolate for both local and international markets.

The project undertaken by the DCF, is supported by the Government of Grenada’s Regional Agriculture Competitiveness Project (AGRICOM).

Head of the Project Implementation Unit of the OECS AGRICOM, within the Ministry of Agriculture Gregory Delsol, explains that the project, seeks to create an entire cocoa experience.

Agronomist Andrew Hastick explains the rationale of the new factory’s location, which is in keeping with the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requirements for Dark Chocolate to be produced at a separate location from Milk Chocolate.

The venture aims to make accessible locally produced chocolate that will be available.

Agriculture Minister Peter David, touring the facility, says the project augurs well for Food Security and the economy.
