An initiative has been launched that can help cut back on the incidence of praedial larceny and property theft.
“Solar Vision” is the newest product of “Classique Lighting Caribbean”, a 100% solar sustainable lighting system for homes, businesses and farms, launched in collaboration with Communal Cooperative Credit Union.
The Solar lights are seen as the panacea to solving farmers’ complaints concerning praedial larceny as well as provide better security protection for householders and businesses.
The gadget will allow farmers to monitor their holdings from the comfort of their homes, according to Acting Assistant Superintendant Trevor Rodney of the Royal Grenada Police Force.
He sees the lights as an important medium.
Agriculture Minister, Peter David, welcome the initiative, indicating that praedial larceny is an economic crime, which, if left unresolved, can lead to further deterioration of the economy and the agriculture sector.
Minister David is hopeful that the initiative, along with a more serious vibrant praedial larceny division within the RGPF, farmers can rest assured that praedial larceny will be a thing of the past.
The Communal Cooperative Credit Union has developed a product called Smart Energy 2.0 loan, which will allow members to finance the purchasing of the lighting system.
The product comes in 100, 300 and 400 watts with a solar panel and all the necessary attachments and installation support.
