Fogging operations undertaken by the Ministry of Health continue over the next three days.
According to the Vector Control Division, the fogging operation is in an effort to reduce the incidence of dengue fever and other mosquito-borne infection.
Today, the team will be in Soubise, St. Andrew, and environs.
Tomorrow, fogging will be at Carriere, Paraclete and Dunfermline in St. Andrew, with operations also taking place in Redmud, Marli and La Fortune in St. Patrick’s.
Sunday, the fogging team moves to New Hampshire, Boca, Snug Corner and St. Paul’s in St. George’s and Perdmontemps and Windsor Forest in St. David.
Fogging operations will be conducted 5 each afternoon.
REPORT:
The Ministry of Health says the fogging operation is in response to numerous complaints of mosquito infestation.
It’s advising residents in the scheduled areas to be vigilant in ensuring their surroundings are free of mosquito-breeding sites.
Individuals with respiratory conditions are urged to stay away from the fog, or inform the fogging team of their condition.
Beekeepers are also asked to inform the team of any beekeeping activities in the area to be fogged.
The Vector control unit is also reminding the public to be mindful of the Mosquito Destruction Act of 1952, which states that individuals are required to keep their premises free of the breeding of mosquito larvae.
The Ministry says failure to do so can result in a two hundred and fifty dollars fine on summary conviction, in the first instance, and five hundred dollars for subsequent violations if found guilty of an offense.
