The One-Time US Secretary of State, Colin Powell, who paid a visit to Grenada to offer assistance in the aftermath of hurricane Ivan, has passed due to complications associated with COVID-19.
General Powell served in the US military and rose to the rank of Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
We remember him here in Grenada looking at the devastation that was caused by hurricane Ivan, after which through USAID, Grenada received approximately 45-odd million US dollars for recovery efforts.
He was the first Black US Secretary of State whose leadership in several Republican administrations helped shape American foreign policy.
He died this morning at age 84.
