Catholic Priest, Fr. Gerard Paul, remains in the spotlight, defying orders of a second suspension by the Head of the Catholic Diocese of St. George’s, Bishop Clyde Harvey.
This continues to be the talk of the day.
Since the fracas between the two a few weeks ago hatched due to Father Paul’s outspoken nature in sympathy with Palestinians and the perils they face in the Hamas-Israeli Gaza conflict.
Fr. Paul believed the catholic church was too silent on the issue and according to his remarks, it was felt that he was attacking the church publicly.
He was suspended on that basis, but days later that was retracted and both parties opted for mediation with representatives of Catholic church bodies and witnessed by Attorney Francis Alexis.
Both parties, it’s reported, had agreed to stay away from speaking publicly on the matter, but, it was established that Fr. Paul broke the agreement shortly thereafter.
We understand that Fr. Paul was handed his second suspension notice by way of a letter from Bishop Harvey transferred to him by a bailiff.
At the time, Fr. Paul had just arrived back home from the Sister Isles.
Despite that though, Fr. Paul is still said to have conducted mass Sunday at the Holy Family Catholic church in River Sallee, St. Patrick, to a congregation that has been somewhat favourable in his corner.
Fr. Paul is defying the suspension imposed on him by Bishop Harvey.
And now, Fr. Paul has given all indication that he will start a drive to have Bishop Harvey removed as Head of the Diocese of St. George in Grenada.
