The safety of famers is being brought to the fore with the Grenada Cooperative Nutmeg Association currently engaged in training farmers on best practices with the use of small farm tools.
A theoretical training exercise began last week and is being continued this week whereby farmers are learning how best to manage small farm tools, particularly the chainsaw and weed eater.
The session was organized by the Grenada Cooperative Nutmeg Association in collaboration with the Climate Smart Agriculture and Rural Enterprise Programme (SAEP) and the Climate Resilient Agriculture for Sustainable Landscape Management Project- UNDP.
It was facilitated by Aiden Forteau, Sustainable Landscape Management Specialist, who taught the participants different parts of the weed-eater and chainsaw, how to care for tools, and the importance of protective equipment.
Manager of the Grenada Cooperative Nutmeg Association, Roderick St. Clair, speaks of the genesis of the training, which continues this week, on the proper use of Farm tools and equipment.
St. Clair says the fundamentals on how to cut a tree or branch are important to avoid farmers from getting hurt while doing so.
The practical session is being held this week.
