The Grenada Football Association (GFA) will bring together the nation’s next generation of footballers on Thursday, August 6, for the GFA Summer of Soccer Festival, the grand culmination of its Summer of Soccer Program that has inspired and developed young players across Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique throughout the summer.
The Festival, scheduled for 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at the Roy St. John Playing Field, Tanteen, will welcome approximately 1000 boys and girls, representing every Summer of Soccer centre across the tri-island state, for a morning of football, friendship and celebration. Families, supporters and the wider public are invited to attend, with free admission for all.
The event marks the successful conclusion of one of the GFA’s premier grassroots football development initiatives, reaffirming the Association’s commitment to building a sustainable future for football by investing in children at the earliest stages of their football journey.
Throughout the morning, participants will enjoy a vibrant festival atmosphere featuring multiple small-sided football fields, skill-based activities and friendly games, creating an environment that celebrates participation, teamwork and the joy of the game.
The Summer of Soccer Program has become a cornerstone of the GFA’s long-term football development strategy, providing boys and girls with free access to structured coaching, technical development and positive mentorship during the school vacation period. More importantly, it serves as the foundation of a player development pathway designed to strengthen grassroots participation, club football, national youth programmes and, ultimately, Grenada’s senior national teams.
Marlon Glean, President, GFA said the Festival represents much more than the end of another successful summer programme.
“The Summer of Soccer Festival is a celebration of our children, our communities and our vision for the future of football in Grenada. Every child who has participated throughout this programme represents the next generation of footballers, leaders and ambassadors for our country. Grassroots football is where sustainable success begins, and the GFA remains committed to ensuring that every young person, regardless of where they live or their background, has the opportunity to discover and develop their potential through football. Today’s festival celebrates not only what these children have accomplished over the past several weeks, but the bright future that lies ahead for football in our tri-island state.”
Conducted across centres in every parish, as well as Carriacou and Petite Martinique, the Summer of Soccer Program provides children between the ages of 6 and 16 with opportunities to learn the fundamentals of football while developing discipline, teamwork, confidence and healthy lifestyles.
Beyond developing technical ability, the initiative reflects the GFA’s commitment to ensuring football remains accessible to every community while reinforcing the Association’s belief that football is a powerful vehicle for education, social inclusion, leadership and national development.
Alister Fleming, Technical Director, GFA emphasized that grassroots programmes such as Summer of Soccer are critical to the continued advancement of football nationally.

These young participants are the future of our clubs, our national teams and, ultimately, Grenadian football.”
The Festival also recognizes the dedication of coaches, volunteers, parents and community partners whose commitment has helped create another successful year of grassroots football development. Their collective efforts continue to provide young players with positive sporting experiences while fostering a lifelong appreciation for the game.
The GFA Summer of Soccer Festival represents not an ending, but a transition into the next stage of the Association’s grassroots football pathway. As the Summer of Soccer Program concludes, participants and their families will be invited to continue their football journey through the GFA’s Weekly Grassroots Football Programme, which returns in September and will be held every Saturday. This seamless transition reflects the GFA’s long-term commitment to providing continuous opportunities for children to develop their technical skills, build character and remain actively engaged in the game. Through sustained grassroots programming, the Association is strengthening the foundation of football in Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique while nurturing the next generation of club players, national youth internationals and future senior national team representatives.
