The Government Information Service (GIS) of Grenada marked a transformative milestone today with the official switchover of its Flow cable network channel 22 from Standard Definition (SD) to High Definition (HD) broadcasting. The event took place at the GIS headquarters in the Ministerial Complex and featured remarks from Ms. Carlyn McQuilkin, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of National Security, Home Affairs, Public Administration, Information and Disaster Management, alongside key partners such as Mr. Lincoln Baptiste, Country Manager of Flow Grenada.
In her remarks, Ms. McQuilkin underscored the significance of this upgrade as a reflection of the government’s commitment to improving communication with its citizens. “In an era where information is at the heart of governance, this transition to HD broadcasting represents a leap forward in our ability to deliver clear, reliable, and accessible content to every citizen,” she said. “Whether they are at home, in the workplace, or part of our diaspora, Grenadians can now access government information with the clarity and impact they deserve.”
The shift to HD broadcasting brings sharper visuals and enhanced sound quality to channel 22, improving the delivery of public announcements, educational programming, and emergency alerts. This enhancement ensures that government messages are more engaging and comprehensible, strengthening the connection between the state and its people. The initiative is a key component of Grenada’s broader vision for digital transformation and innovation in public service delivery.
Ms. McQuilkin also praised the collaborative efforts behind the project, noting, “The dedicated staff of GIS, under the leadership of Mr. Jason Phillip, and our partners at Flow Grenada, led by Mr. Lincoln Baptiste, have worked tirelessly to achieve this milestone. Their work exemplifies the spirit of public service and the power of partnership.”
Referencing Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell’s emphasis on “putting people first,” the Permanent Secretary highlighted that this upgrade prioritises the needs of Grenadians by providing them with top-quality information. “Today, we ensure that every citizen has access to the highest standard of communication, delivered with the care and precision they deserve,” she concluded.
The Government of Grenada invites the public to tune in to channel 22 to experience this enhanced viewing quality firsthand and anticipates further advancements in communication technology to better serve the nation.
