MAKING REMARKS AT THE Government Post Cabinet Briefing yesterday regarding the issue of carnival and the legislation of its cancellation being passed in parliament, Government Minister Oliver Joseph gives his full support.

Reiterating the Government’s efforts in containing the spread of COVID-19, Joseph is reminding citizens that Monday and Tuesday next week are normal working days.

He tells the nation’s citizens that the regulations governing COVID-19 are still in place and must be observed by all.

Joseph is, therefore, urging citizens to act responsibly when it comes to health safeguards against the Coronavirus.

Meantime, Joseph says the global Coronavirus outbreak has significantly impacted the country’s economic sector.

With international trade accounting for 48 percent of current revenue, Joseph noted that the closure of ports and other revenue collectors seriously reduced the Government’s ability to collect projected revenue.

He says despite the shortfall in revenue the administration continues to meet its obligations.

However, with the significant decline in projected income, adjustments, according to Joseph, will have to be made to the 2020 budget.

The trade Minister did indicate, however, that the says all government’s stimulus programmes will remain in place.
