Tomorrow September 16, has been declared by the United Nations General Assembly as International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer, or in other words, “World Ozone Day”.
Grenada and other parties to the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer will commemorate the impressive achievements of this global multilateral environmental treaty in healing the ozone layer.
Grenada’s Minister for climate resilience, the environment and renewable energy, Kerryne James, speaking ahead of the occasion, says in recent months, many countries and regions including Grenada and the Caribbean have seen record-breaking increases in environmental temperatures and heat waves.
Minister James spoke of some of the measures instituted to help phase out all ozone-depleting substances.
