A call has been made for an independent inquiry into the police killing of a mentally-ill st. Patrick resident last month.

The call comes from the Grenada Association of Professional Social Workers (GAPSW) (gaps-wah), in collaboration with the Grenada Human Rights Association (GHRO).

President of the Grenada Association of Professional Social Workers, Ann greaves, says more needs to be done to avoid such situations.

GAPSW (gaps-wah) and the GHRO are also saying that relatives of mentally ill persons need to feel confident that when they request assistance from the police, it will not result in the death of their loved ones.

The associations are also calling on the Government to revisit the 2008 draft Mental Health Bill.
