A boat to help Grenada clean up the sargassum seaweed was launched yesterday.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Lands, Fisheries and Co-operatives, through the generous support of the Government and People of Japan has received a brand new boat, along with all the necessary materials, equipment, and spare parts.

It’s all under the Japan Grant Aid for the Economic and Social Development Programme for Grenada (FY2020).

Its mission is to effectively manage and remove the pesky sargassum seaweed from Grenada’s coastal waters!

The over 20-ft boat was launched at the Kirani James Boulevard.

Following the launch is a three-day training session that will cover everything from operating and maintaining the boat to practical techniques for cleaning up the sargassum.

Participants include members from the Fisheries Division, Grenada Solid Waste Management Authority (GSWMA), skilled fishers, boat operators, and marine mechanics.
