Grenada today joined in on the global observance of World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD).
It’s an event created to raise public awareness, promote inclusivity, encourage advocacy, and support the wellbeing of those living with Down syndrome.
Down syndrome is a condition in which a child is born with an extra copy of their 21st chromosome.
The 2022 theme for WDSD is ‘We Decide’ inspired by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which emphasizes fostering the affected individuals with their rights.
The global awareness initiative has been backed by the United Nations since 2012.
The colors for Down syndrome awareness are blue and yellow.
