In several parts of the country today, pockets of revelers could be noticed in jab jab attire, chanting and gyrating to the sound of drums and shell-blowing in the description of a carnival-like jouvert parade.
It’s in the face of the COVID-19 postponement of the Carnival festival for a second year running, a measure taken by the Grenada Government, which says the risk of the virus in Grenada and the rest of the region, and the World at large, is extremely high.
In view of this, the Grenada Parliament, House of Representatives and Senate, approved the cancellation of this year’s carnival activities, as health authorities continue concentrating on efforts to control any spread of the Coronavirus.
The move was also made by MP’s legislating the removal of the carnival Monday and Tuesday Bank holidays.
But, like instances last year, 2021 is no exception and jab jab revelers found themselves in several of the Nation’s communities in the early hours of this morning, and in cases, defying efforts by law enforcement to keep control.
A group of revelers was seen in one vicinity in St. Andrew, heading for the Town of Grenville, which prompted the Police to create a blockade with their vehicle.
We took our microphones to the streets in St. Andrew, at the time, for views of the people as it relates to authorities cancelling the festival for the health and safety of the country, but revelers out on the streets in several areas in a carnival-like mode.
Well, later during the day, given the volume of revelry, the jab jab parade sought haven on the Pearls Airstrip, away from the hustle and bustle of activity in the busy centres in St. Andrew, particularly away from the Town of Grenville.

It appeared to be the preferable location for all the jab jab wine and dine and away from any defiance and as they call it harassment by law enforcers.
It never looked that carnival being cancelled was on their mind, neither did they ever give one iota of concern that Grenada was in a state of being affected by the global pandemic.
It was there for the World to see, posted on social media…an indication of the once promoted cultural aspect of the Grenadian mas…Grenada and its 100,000 jab jabs…Grenada, a jab, jab Nation.
The branding that no one in the World could play jab jab like a Grenadian took effect, Covid or no Covid, for the minute time it appeared to curious onlookers that the jab jabs were directed to head to the Pearls Airstrip, the entire country, saw one thing and one thing only, carnival time, in defiance of order for health and safety, covid or no covid, leaving law enforcement handicapped.
