Grenada today joined the rest of the world today in observing World kidney day.

It’s a day set aside worldwide to raise awareness of the importance of the kidneys to our overall health, and to reduce the frequency and impact of kidney disease and its associated health problems worldwide.

World kidney day 2023 is held under the theme “Kidney Health for All-Preparing for the unexpected, supporting the vulnerable”.

Health Minister Sen. Jonathan LaCrette in his address to the nation on the occasion of World Kidney Day says Non-communicable diseases contribute to high mortality and morbidity rates in the region.

He lamented that this is presenting a significant burden on national health systems with the potential to impede progress towards a robust Primary Healthcare structure.

Sen. LaCrette says individuals with kidney disease are among the most vulnerable in the population, and as such an integrated approach is needed in combating this disease.

Sen. LaCrette says in times of emergency focus must be placed on providing equitable and proper care for kidney disease.

The Government is currently providing financial assistance to twenty-nine (29) patients on dialysis.
