Grenadian officials are said to be among two hundred attendees currently participating in the 20th Anniversary Scientific Conference of the Caribbean Regional Fisheries Mechanism (CRFM).

Over the past few years, Grenada has been considered as being vibrant in the area of fisheries.

The e-conference which kicked off yesterday is aimed at providing a space for networking, information exchange, and dialogue on a range of important topics.

CARICOM Secretary-General, Dr. Carla Barnett, delivering the opening remarks, reiterated that the health of the coastal and marine ecosystems and the wellbeing of the people are integrally connected.

The need for innovation and data-driven management decisions for the fisheries and aquaculture sector, as well as the vital importance of building resilience in the face of climate change and other adversities were the common threads at the opening of the exercise yesterday.

The conference culminates Thursday with national reports from representatives of the 17 CRFM Member States on the status of their fisheries.
