Grenada goes in the spotlight as cricketing authorities, local, regional and international, are getting ready for the staging here of the 5-match T/20 Series between the West Indies and South Africa.

It takes place from June 26 to July 3, with matches June 26 and 27, June 29 and July 1 and 3.

Sports Minister, Yolande Bain-Horsford, speaking at another in the series of the Government’s Post Cabinet Briefings, says Grenada is happy to host the T/20 tournament.

The matches were initially scheduled for Trinidad and Tobago but with the undesirable COVID situation in the twin-island Republic, Cricket West Indies offered the matches to Grenada.

Already, CWI representatives are here ensuring all logistics are calculated for the event.

Grenada will be hosting some 130 individuals for the occasion, official delegates of the teams, the players and match officials among the lot.

Grenada, the Sports Minister says is putting its best foot in front to ensure the series runs smoothly.

Chairman of the National Organizing Committee, Troy Garvey, says hosting the series is indeed a challenge and Grenada stands committed to delivering a satisfactory product of international recognition.

The hosting of the series is not like in pre-COVID times…there are far more checks and balances to be accounted for, in what is now the COVID-19 era and Grenada’s ability to cope.

Garvey is of the view there’s no room for error and there lies the challenge, allowing and accepting spectators into the games.

According to him, in this COVID time, it’s not business as usual.
