The Grenada Senate gave the green light today to extend the State of Emergency established on the basis of the country’s fight against the coronavirus to November 20.
At a meeting of the upper house this morning the leader of Government Business, Simon Steill, presented a resolution in this regard.
The State of Emergency was invoked in the second quarter of last year, instituting measures geared at protecting the Nation and its people in the face of the deadly virus.
Senator Stiell believes the resolution is timely to give the authority the tools they need to continue managing the situation , as far as it concerns the health and safety of the Nation, with the coronavirus still on a threatening trajectory.
Stiell indicated that changes can be made with the resolution within the timeframe, based on public health circumstances; this and more concerning the virus.

The resolution was not put to a vote, since it was interpreted that Senators were in full support, based on their uttering.
The general feeling is that Grenada must remain cautious.

While the Agriculture Senator, Roderick St. Clair, had no problems with the extension of the State of emergency, he believes it could have been scaled down to three months instead of six.
